The Chinese consider April 1st to be the earth's birthday and they celebrate by planting in the earth. I remember when Pres. Jensen counseled our stake to grow one thing to eat. If we did plant one thing, again this year, I know our families will be blessed and inspired. Each family can prayerfully consider what they can do.
Grade school children will most likely come home this spring with a few beans seeds or pea sprouts germinated in cups or baggies they planted for science. I know Cub Scouts/Activity Day Girls as well as Youth have some achievements for planting and landscaping, maybe just use a pot. Pots and containers are a great way to start when you are beginning gardening.
The first link shows how to start seeds indoors if you are interested in that and the second one shows raised beds. Ed Hume is one of my favorite sites to look up good information about gardening. Search the extensive library from the home page with your questions.
